Origins of Poker
Poker undoubtedly has it's roots in an Arabic card game, originally played with 5 suits. A more recognisable ancestor of modern Poker evolved in Europe and Poker may take it's name either from 'Pochen' the German for "brag" or the the French "Poque" meaning "bluff." Certainly French settlers played "Poque" in New Orleans, showed other new Americans how to play Poker.
Initially Poker may have been a card game associated with cheats, outlaws, and played aboard riverboats. As the game further developed it became a favourite card game and now peaople all over the world know how to play poker.
How to Play Poker
Poker generally uses a standard pack of playing cards, 52 cards although some Poker games use more or less depending on the variations such as adding wild cards like jokers. The card ranking is as follows Ace (high), King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 (the lowest), Ace (this may also be the lowest card depending on the variations you are using, but it is usually the highest).
No suit is higher than another. All poker hands contain five cards, the highest hand wins. There are ten hands with a strict ranking.
